Description

Call for Expression of Interest now Open

Australian agriculture and rural communities will need to adapt to climate change. Many rural landholders are already taking some steps to minimise net losses and take advantage of opportunities for gains. There are a number of social research programs - recently completed or underway – which focus on understanding the nature and scale of adaptation responses by rural landholders, the social/psychological factors influencing the type of actions being taken (e.g. tactical/ reactive versus strategic/anticipatory), and the extent to which landholder perceptions of climate risk are shaping the way they manage their properties.

The Institute for Land, Water and Society, in partnership with Landscape Logic CERF, Future Farm Industries CRC, CSIRO and NCCARF, is convening a two day Forum to discuss and debate the current and future social and institutional issues which challenge researchers, resource managers, policy makers, and members of rural communities.

The Forum’s aim is to bring together a small group (~ 40) in a social learning context –building trust and reciprocity. Selected speakers, will provide a brief overview of their research, and speak specifically about emerging issues/challenges in research methodologies, community engagement, and/or resource management and policy development and implementation.

If you would like to attend this Forum, please send an Expression of Interest.

Please note there is NO Registration Fee for attendance at this Forum. All meals, including the Forum Dinner, are provided. For more information contact Dr Maureen Rogers at marogers@csu.edu.au or phone 0407 441 523.

Australia and the European Union: A study of a changing trade and business relationship

Type:

NIRRA Member Contributors

Description

The trade and business relationship between Australia and the EU has evolved and diversified in recent years. However, it is still focused on Australia-UK relations, while bilateral Australia-EU perceptions are still inked to past conflicts over agricultural trade. A multi-disciplinary team will consider several interlinked aspects of the Australia-EU trade and business relationship, diversification of the relationship beyond agriculture and raw materials into services and investment; shared Australia-EU interest in the context of WTO; perceptions about operating in different business environments across the EU; impediments to trade and investment from ‘behind-the-border regulation’; shared Australia-EU interests in Asia-Pacific.
