Professor John Lovett, Adjunct Professor, National Institute for Rural & Regional Australia

Chairman of the Board of Agrifood Awareness Australia Ltd, John Lovett is foundation Chairman of the Board of the Cooperative Research Centre for National Plant Biosecurity Ltd, and the nominee of AusBiotech Ltd to the Australian Capital Territory Gene Technology Advisory Committee.

In 1990 John Lovett was appointed to the foundation Board of the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), becoming Managing Director in 1994 and serving in that capacity until December 2003. 
 
Since leaving the Corporation, John has assisted a number of industries with various aspects of strategy and planning – grains, meat and wool in Australia, and dairy in New Zealand. 
 
An Emeritus Professor at the University of New England, where he held the Chair in Agronomy, John Lovett was formerly Professor of Agricultural Science at the University of Tasmania and has had research associations in Indonesia, Finland and the United Kingdom.
 
In 2006 he was appointed to the Executive Board of the Global Crop Diversity Trust, established to protect the world’s crop genetic resources in perpetuity.  In August 2009 he was appointed to the Board of the Primary Industries Education Foundation.

Mr Ken Moore, Adjunct Fellow, National Institute for Rural and Regional Australia

Ken Moore brings thirty years’ experience as a national primary industry, water and natural resources analyst, policy advisor, project manager and researcher in government and the private sector. 

Prior to his current position as Manager of Research and Development, Indigenous Business Australia , Ken was an Associate at Inovact Consulting, and the Manager of Water R&D, the Environmental Water Allocation Program and the Social and Institutional Research Program for Land & Water Australia. 
  
As a national consultant from 1997 to 2008, Ken researched, interviewed, wrote and presented prolifically on future directions for agricultural industries and natural resources, particularly water.

Through extensive Australian travel with his work, Ken has knowledge of most regions and industries and the issues they manage.  He has very wide networks amongst business, industry, regional, community, government and educational institutions Australia-wide.

From 2002 to 2006, Ken managed the Harvey irrigation Systems project under the National Sustainable Irrigation Program that won the 2005 Western Australian Environment Award for water management and was a national showcase project in 2004 on irrigation efficiency.

Ken is a former Senior Executive Service officer with the primary industries portfolio of the Australian Government (now the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry) and Executive Director of Agriculture WA (now Department of Agriculture and Food).
